The Marietta Square Farmer’s Market is one of the most popular in the metro Atlanta area; and now residents and visitors will get to enjoy it for even longer since the Marietta City Council approved extending the market’s dates through December.
Typically, the Marietta Square Farmer’s Market – at North Park Square, between Shillings Restaurant and The Strand Theater – runs every Saturday morning from 9 a.m. to noon between May and September. But the growth of its popularity last year and this year convinced council members that it needed to be held over through December 26, which will most likely please loyal customers.
Around 60 booths are set up by vendors and nearly one thousand customers make the weekly trek to the square – rain or shine – for the fresh produce, flowers and homemade items that are grown and produced locally.
Market director, Johnny Fulmer, believes the market is not only a great place to pick up delicious food items, but it’s also a major social event for customers and vendors.
“All of our vendors get along and help each other out,” he said.
Fulmer requested the extension of council after he received numerous requests from vendors and customers.
The variety of items on sale at each booth is stunning.
At Adam’s Garden of Eden booth you’ll find fresh produce from green beans to hot peppers and zucchini. All natural dog biscuits by Big Daddy Biscuits are sold at the Hope’s Garden booth. The Church Street Market booth sells everything from gift baskets, jams, relish, hot sauces and cider. At Efes Restaurant booth pick up some Turkish pastries; or explore the wonders of raw honey, wax candles and candy at the Hometown Honey booth.
Booths selling organic granola, home grown pecans, fudge, cheese, fried pies, flowers, herbs, beef jerky and handmade soaps are also open for business. Most vendors accept both cash and credit card, although there are exceptions.
A portion of both Mill Street and North Park Square will be closed between 7 a.m. and 1 p.m. every Saturday until December 26 for set up and take down of the market.
